Tasting Note

Bright purple-red, with a fresh, intense nose of berries and violets. Powerful and sweet-fruited on the palate, with ripe, rounded tannins and berry, floral and spice notes on a long finish.

Drink it with: roast meats, game or hard cheeses.

The Winemaking

Ten days' maceration and fermentation in temperature-controlled steel, then six months on fine lees. No oak.

The Vineyards

Mostly old Mencía bush vines averaging around 60 years, on sloping clay soils with pebbles near the surface, plus some younger trellised vines.

The Producer

Bodegas y Viñedos Merayo pairs very old vines in Bierzo with a young, energetic winemaker, Juan Merayo. Even the entry-level wines come from vineyards planted more than 80 years ago.
